The saying goes that necessity is the mother of invention. Perhaps nowhere does the old adage ring truer than local inventor and independent businesswoman Diane Cohen.
Cohen’s route to inventing, and pursuing patents for a pair of products – a removable and washable cover for pet beds and a pocket built into a pillow cover to store items such as books and reading glasses — that hit the shelves this past year was circuitous and unorthodox. The 17-year Bedford resident and mother of four has no background in business, design, art, or fashion, and never had the opportunity to attend college.
What she had was a work ethic born out of necessity.
